Interview with Nestor Kosinski about the development of the trail
The Lower Silesian Beer and Wine Trail has been in existence since 2018. It has brought together people of passion – brewers and winemakers. It’s supposed to facilitate sightseeing, but it still hasn’t been fully explored. Who should know it and why?
Anyone who is turned on by artisanal products. Who wants to get to know Lower Silesia through culinary, who enjoys active recreation and direct contact with the producer, who relaxes in the lap of nature, who is thirsty for knowledge about beer production, wine and viticulture, and who is simply curious about the world.
What conditions, in terms of viticulture, do we have in Lower Silesia and what distinguishes our region on a national scale?
Lower Silesia is one of the warmest regions in Poland. It is here that the vegetation period is the longest. The history of vine cultivation in our region dates back to the Middle Ages. The first mention of it appeared in 1206 and concerned a vineyard in Trzebnica. What distinguishes us are the passionate people who take a professional approach to viticulture, wine production, promotion of wine-drinking culture, and the renewal of the wine tradition in Lower Silesia.
Where did the idea to run a vineyard come from?
It was born from the adoration of wine as a carrier of culture, a companion for meetings and conversations, but also from the desire to work at something for which one is responsible from the beginning, I mean cultivation, to the end, that is, obtaining wine. It was also born out of respect for artisanal, local products and the conviction that the tradition of wine production in Lower Silesia needs to be rebuilt.
The vacations are ahead, what attractions or events are the venues of the Lower Silesian Beer and Wine Route preparing?
Each of the wineries is prepared to welcome guests. ZarWino is a periodic event that combines outdoor fire-inspired cooking with local wine. One-Day Restaurant, a celebration of food co-created by cooks and visitors at Agat and Moderna wineries. (Un)wine lounging, or relaxing together at Anna Vineyard in the Barycz Valley and tasting wines paired with barbecue and local cheeses. The third season of the Winemakers and Friends festival is also being launched. There are three editions ahead in the vineyards (June, July, August) and a grand finale at Partynice in September.
We already know that wineries and breweries, are not just local products. What else can tourists who visit you count on? What attractions in the vicinity of your winery can you recommend?
In my immediate area to see is Trzebnica – a beautiful, historic city. But it is also lesser known, but not to me interesting places – the loess gorge in Zapreżyno, the Economic Mill in Dąbrowica or the Land of Alpacas in Krakowiany. I invite you!
