Table Mountain National Park and Szczeliniec Wielki

Landscape attractiveness and natural peculiarities led to the establishment of the Table Mountains National Park in the area. The highest elevation of the Table Mountains is Szczeliniec Wielki (919 meters above sea level). Over the millennia, wind and water have created crevices and cracks in the sandstone in the shape of caverns and passages, and many individual rocks have taken on fantastic shapes. A staircase of 665 steps carved into the rock leads to Szczeliniec. Among the crevices, chasms and rocks with fairy-tale names, a tourist path is marked out.

Table Mountains – the only plate mountains in Poland

The Table Mountains on the western side enclosing the Klodzko Basin are the only plate mountains in Poland. These mountains are a kind of plateau with steeply falling, 200-meter-high faults. The Błędne Skały Reserve – a rocky network of passages

The nearby Błędne Skały Nature Reserve resembles from a bird’s eye view a city with a regular street layout. It is formed by peculiar rock formations, which resemble a complex network of corridors. The Table Mountains are also visited by mountain climbing enthusiasts, who try their hand at climbing on the slopes of Szczeliniec Wielki.

Table Mountain bogs – natural treasures of nature

A peculiarity of the Table Mountains are the peat bogs. The best known almost 40-hectare Great Bator Bog is overgrown with typical bog vegetation (including blueberry willows, bog pines, bog heather, sundews). The most beautiful of the mountain peat bogs in Poland is located near Zieleniec “Bog under Zieleniec”. This large (almost 160 hectares) peat bog lying at an altitude of about 750 meters above sea level resembles Siberian tundra in places. Peat mosses grow here, as well as dwarf birch, bog pine, bog cranberry and many other rare bog plants.
